About Me

This blog is my personal soapbox and travelogue… Welcome.

I call Austin, TX home. I’ve lived a lot of places during my life (both within the U.S. and abroad), and this beautiful, weird town is definitely one of my favorites.

You can find me most days downtown at FiveRuns, where I happily get paid to do something I love: craft software in a beautiful language, and hang out with a great team.

My passions

I hand-craft software using the best tools I can find. Since 2001 this has generally meant Ruby. I also love to hack in functional languages, niche languages, and crazy ideas. That’s how I stumbled into Ruby in the first place, after all!

After hours, I work on open source software, read a lot of useless fiction, pretend to be a gourmet chef, and chase my two sons around.

Working for you

No, I’m not looking for a full—time job. I always appreciate the interest, however, and if you seem serious about finding a skilled developer I’d be happy to pass you along to people I recommend (and who trust me not to send them chaff).

If you’re working on a project and need help, I’m occasionally available for very limited scope consulting, code reviews, etc. I am generally available for training and courseware preparation.

Finding me

Yeah, you guessed it, I’m all over the interwebs…

Welcome to the personal website of Bruce Williams, longtime Rubyist, graphic designer, language enthusiast, amateur chef, and oil painter of little skill. I am a work in progress.

I have the good fortune to write code for a living. Take a peek at my work and personal projects.
